System requirements

WinU is an excellent way to provide easily-understood access to novice users. It is useful for businesses that want to let employees use only authorized applications, for schools and public institutions that need to give patrons access to specific programs yet safeguard the computer against tampering, and even for individual parents who want to restrict their children's usage of the family PC. The user has full access to authorized software, but can't change the computer's setup or delete important files.

WinU's simplified user interface allows full access to authorized software, yet prevents accidental or malicious system modifications. It lets you specify the amount of time that each program can be used -- even communications programs for the Internet or online services. On each controlled computer, WinU can track up to a million programs on a thousand password-protected desktops per computer. Each desktop can have its own name, appearance, programs, time limits, and security settings. WinU logs all accessed websites, blocks Ctrl+Alt+Del and the Windows keys, makes files or folders read-only or invisible, disables the keyboard at startup to prevent users from bypassing Windows, locks the CD-ROM drive door, and more.

System administrators will appreciate WinU's built-in remote management and audit-trail oversight tools. They make it fast and easy to see who's been doing what, and to configure a WinU station to do whatever you require, even clone that station onto another computer without re-entering anything. You can monitor and update your remote stations "on the fly" over the network or by disk for non-networked computers. WinU even has built-in license meter management, so you can control how many users can simultaneously run any program.

WinU's built-in activity logging can track exactly when each program was run, by whom, and for how long. It can even monitor World Wide Web page access, and the amount of time spend at each site. Its built-in reports and graphs can analyze this information, or it can be exported to any database or spreadsheet. The free Remote Administration Kit tools extend WinU in a number of directions to meet specific needs.

(Current version: WinU 5.0)

Nowadays more and more people use computers, yet they know less and less about them. To address this, WinU is used worldwide by banks, airlines, hospitals, retail outlets, auto-parts chains and many thousands of others to allow secure computer access to untrained users. Corporate and institutional system administrators rely on WinU's easy-to-use interface to reduce training costs so new staff can use computers fast, and at the same time prevent accidental or malicious computer modifications. Thus, systems aren't "out of service" and users can do their work without interruption.

Gartner Group, the respected industry analyst firm, has estimated an annual total cost of ownership (TCO) of $13,187 per year per Windows-based PC, in part due to the cost of repairing configuration damage caused by unsophisticated or malicious users. With machines protected by WinU, companies can dramatically reduce the costs associated with this problem.

System requirements

WinU runs under Microsoft Windows 95. It takes up only about 1.5 MB of disk space, and is considerate of your system setup. WinU installs its files only into the one directory you name, and it includes a well-designed uninstaller that will remove all its files from your system should that be necessary.
